In a decisive move to “enhance government efficiency,” President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has carried out a major cabinet reshuffle, dismissing five ministers and appointing seven new ones.

As detailed in a statement from the Presidency, received by *Ogunwatch*, this reshuffle is part of eight comprehensive actions approved by the President to streamline key ministries and refocus efforts on fulfilling his administration’s promises to Nigerians.

A key change is the renaming of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to the Ministry of Regional Development. The statement outlined that this new ministry will now oversee all Regional Development Commissions, including those for the Niger Delta, Southeast, Northeast, and Northwest.

Additionally, the Ministry of Sports Development has been dissolved, with its responsibilities shifted to the newly restructured National Sports Commission, now led by Shehu Dikko. Senator John Owan Enoh, formerly the Minister of Sports Development, has been reassigned as Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment.

Other significant adjustments, according to the Presidency’s statement, include the merger of the Federal Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Arts and Culture to form the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy.

Among the ministers reassigned are:
– Hon. Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, moving from Minister of State for Education to Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
– Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, formerly the Minister of State for Health, now taking over as Minister of Education.
– Hon. Abubakar Momoh, previously Minister of Niger Delta Development, will now lead the Ministry of Regional Development.

Five ministers have been removed from their posts, including Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; and Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education.

President Tinubu thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and urged the newly appointed and reassigned ministers to treat their positions as an opportunity to serve the nation with full dedication. “This reshuffle reflects the administration’s eagerness and determination to set Nigeria on the path of irreversible growth,” the statement concluded.

The newly appointed ministers will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation in the coming days.
