The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has ordered an immediate investigation into allegations of bribery leveled against some EFCC officers by popular Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky. The allegations surfaced in a viral video featuring Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, where Bobrisky claimed that EFCC officers collected N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.

In the viral video, Bobrisky also alleged that in addition to clearing his charges, the officers arranged for him to stay in a comfortable apartment during his time in detention. These serious accusations have sparked widespread public debate, further amplified by VeryDarkMan, a social media personality known for calling out corruption and injustice in Nigeria.

Responding swiftly to the video, the EFCC’s chairman has set up a team of investigators to thoroughly examine the claims. In a press statement signed by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the Commission invited both Bobrisky and Otse to appear before its Lagos Directorate to assist in the investigation.

“The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has ordered immediate investigation of alleged bribery allegations imputed to some officers of the Commission by Idris Okuneye (aka Bobrisky) in a viral video circulating across the country,” the statement reads.

The EFCC reassured the public that the investigation would be carried out with utmost professionalism and integrity. “The Commission wishes to assure the public that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated and the result of the findings made public accordingly,” the statement continued.

The video, which has garnered widespread attention, stems from a voice note in which Bobrisky alleged that EFCC officers accepted N15 million to erase his money laundering charges and secure him favorable conditions during his detention. These claims, if proven true, raise serious concerns about the integrity of law enforcement officers involved in the case.

VeryDarkMan, who amplified Bobrisky’s claims, has also been vocal in calling for accountability, urging the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service to come clean on the issue. The ongoing investigation is expected to provide clarity on the matter and either exonerate or hold those involved accountable.

The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding its core values of integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration in all circumstances.
