The operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB) have successfully dismantled an illegal petroleum refinery in Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The raid, conducted on September 12, 2024, in collaboration with the Rivers State Command’s Department of Operations, led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of 40,000 liters of illegally acquired crude oil.
The suspects arrested at the scene were identified as Emmanuel Nwachi, 58; Adamu Bala, 35; Nura Musa, 22; and Bashir Abubakar, 28. During the operation, 67 white storage tanks filled with illegal petroleum products were discovered, along with equipment and machines used for the illegal refining of crude oil. The police destroyed the site and seized the equipment used in the crime.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combating oil theft, illegal bunkering, and other forms of economic sabotage.
He emphasized that the Force would continue to crack down on economic saboteurs and bring them to justice.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the operation and reiterated the police’s determination to tackle all forms of crime and corruption, especially those affecting the nation’s economy.
