Chelsea’s forward, Nicolas Jackson, has issued a sharp retort to former club legend Mikel Obi, following the latter’s recent critique of Jackson’s performance.
In a no-nonsense response, Jackson told the ex-midfielder to “keep quiet” after Mikel pointed out that the striker missed several key opportunities during Chelsea’s recent clash with Manchester City.
Mikel had also hinted that Chelsea might consider bringing in Victor Osimhen as a striking alternative.
The Senegalese forward, undeterred by the criticism, made his point on the field by scoring the opening goal in Chelsea’s emphatic 6-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. This goal marked Chelsea’s fastest Premier League goal since 2017.
In a post from the popular soccer page #433, the celebration was highlighted: “Jackson silenced his critics by scoring Chelsea’s opening goal in their 6-2 triumph over Wolves, marking the club’s fastest Premier League goal since 2017.”
Jackson’s joy was evident as he celebrated during the EPL match at Molineux Stadium.
Following the game, Jackson took to social media to directly address Mikel’s comments.
“Mikel Obi, keep quiet and stop talking nonsense. We’re giving our all for Africa,” Jackson wrote in an Instagram post, making his stance on the criticism clear.
Jackson’s goal, a header at the back post within the first two minutes, set the tone for Chelsea’s dominant performance.
Mikel, now 37, had critiqued Jackson’s finishing abilities during Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, speaking on beIN Sport. He remarked, “We had chances, but we didn’t capitalize. Look at how Jackson finishes—he dribbles past defenders but struggles to find the net. Chelsea needs a top striker who knows how to score. It’s not about disrespecting him; it’s about Chelsea needing someone who can deliver consistently, like [Haaland] does for City.”
Chelsea is set to face Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, September 1, in EPL game week three.
