Residents of Safana Federal Constituency in Katsina State have submitted a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking the recall of their representative in the Federal House of Representatives.

The petition, which was addressed to the Chairman of INEC, was delivered on Friday, citing a loss of trust and confidence in the current member’s ability to fulfill his duties.

In their petition, the constituents expressed their dissatisfaction with the representative’s performance, particularly his failure to address key issues such as economic growth, insecurity, kidnapping, banditry, water scarcity, electricity, and other essential social amenities.

The petition reads in part: “We, the members of duly registered voters of Safana Constituency, indigenes of Katsina State, do hereby submit this petition pursuant to Section 69 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) as amended.

.

“We no longer have trust and confidence in the representation of the said member due to his inability to address the basic needs of his people, which are the solid grounds on which we elected him into office.”

The petitioners further emphasized that they feel abandoned and helpless, accusing the representative of seeking their votes during the campaign without making any genuine effort to deliver on his promises.

They have therefore requested INEC to initiate the recall process in accordance with the procedures outlined in the Nigerian Constitution.

The petitioners noted that their decision to pursue this recall came after exhausting all other means to resolve their concerns, but to no avail.

The petition marks a significant step in the democratic process of Nigeria, reflecting the growing demand for accountability and effective representation from elected officials in Nigeria.
